Spoilers for “The Search” (if you can called it spoiling when the comic itself is rancid): Zuko is 100% Ozai’s biological son. Ursa only wrote that letter to mess with Ozai’s head. It was an obvious red herring when I first read it and made me roll my eyes waaay too far into the back of my head. Zuko and Ozai were purposefully drawn and animated as similar in appearance in the original series. Sometimes it’s harder to see because of Zuko’s scar, but here’s an image from Zuko’s fever dream where he is without it:

As little as I trust the comics, even I didn’t think they would go the route of “Zuko is secretly someone else’s genetic offspring”–which, thankfully, they didn’t. 

I feel like this subplot was mostly for cheap, unnecessary drama. As if the fire nation family needed any more drama manufactured for them? There is such a rich well of genuine dysfunction and complex dynamics, bryke could have done so much with this - Ursa didn’t need to be making shit up to annoy Ozai. It makes her look stupid and reckless with her son’s safety.
